Unsolved NPC Mysteries

Ever take notice of a character that just kinda stands out? One who’s unassuming nature makes him more conspicuous? Maybe it’s just me, but I’m kinda weird about recognizing things that don’t seem to click, so when I started the Unsolved NPC Mysteries feature here at Homestyle, there were two NPCs that I knew I had to talk about. The first was Error, but the second is this guy:

See him? No, it’s not Mario or Glass Joe. Wait, here, let me zoom in a bit:

How about now? See him yet? Still no? Really? Ok, one more time:

AAH!

AAH!

Seriously, what is up with that one bearded guy in Punch-Out? I remember playing this game when I was 7 and immediately noticing the hairy bastard sitting in the crowd. He’s the only guy in the audience with facial hair, he shows up to every match, and it’s a FULL BEARD! He’s obviously hiding something.

I also want to point out that he has pretty awesome seats, so whatever it is he’s doing, he gets paid well, because not only does he show up to every match, he’s also always at ringside. My thoughts? Possibly terrorism or arms dealing. That guy’s face screams gun-runner and he uses his funds to purchase boxing tickets. It’s some weird sick, twisted love of pugilism that fuels his evil deeds.

Or maybe it isn’t a beard - maybe he’s a ninja, which opens up all kinds of weird possibilities

Any other NPCs catch you off guard? Share them in the comments.

and imagine the devastation if this guy is allowed out of an 8bit world. and 8bit ninja is scary enough, the original ninja gaiden is proof enough this NPC must be stopped.

Holy cow, no! It’s one of those visual tricks and all I see is the negative space which reminds me of Bomberman! Fuh-Reek-Eee!

    I’m positive that’s Mr. T.

Hence the twisted love of pugilism. And his obvious expression of pity. Pity for the fools.

When Mr. T and Mr. Sandman touch, the fools are pitied to the extreme. And then uppercutted. And then Hannibal drugs them and gets them on a plane.
